First Generation 1. Thomas EWING was born 1730/1740 in Scotland. He died 22 Oct 1800 in Laurens District, South Carolina and was buried in Duncan's Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery. BIOGRAPHY: Thomas and Sarah Ewing were living on Ligget's Branch in the Waxhaws in 1765 on a grant issued by North Carolina, which fell into South Carolina when surveyed 4-20-1766. They gave Andrew and Elizabeth Hutchinson Jackson (parents of President Jackson), the right to settle on 200 acres of their entry; and in 1770, when the boundary between North and South Carolina was settled and the entry became a part of Mecklenburg Co., H. C., Thomas Ewing gave title to this 200 acres to Hugh, Hobert and Andrew Jackson, their father, Andrew Jackson, Sr., having died in 1767. Ewing himself settled at Duncan Creek, founded about 1752 on the waters of the Enoree, a branch of the Broad River, in what is now Laurens Co., S. C, by John Buncan. Laurena Co. was taken from District 96 in 1785. He was an Elder in the Duncan Creek Presbyterian Church, and is buried in the churchyard. His will, dated 7-23-1800 at Duncan Creek, witnessed by Rodger Brown and John ann Margaret Finney, was proven 10-22-1800 at Laurens County, S. C. His name is listed In the South Carolina Revolutionary Army Accounts as having witnessed signatures of Revolutionary soldiers assigning their pay to someone else, and also as asking appraisals of the value of horses "lost in the war by their owners,'' having been impressed into service. This information, accepted by the D.A.R., was received from Mr. A. S. Salley, Secretary of the S. C. Historical Commission on December 51, 1948.
Thomas married Sarah FINNEY about 1759 in Probably Scotland. Sarah was born about 1745 in Scotland. They had the following children: 2 F i. Jane EWING. 3 F ii. Sarah Elizabeth EWING was born 1759. She died 1820. Sarah married John GAMBLE before 1788. + 4 M iii. John Thomas EWING was born 24 Feb 1763 and died 23 Jul 1828. 5 M iv. William B. EWING was born 1765. He died 1820. 6 M v. Second Generation 4. John Thomas EWING (Thomas) was born 24 Feb 1763 in Prince Edward County, Virginia. He died 23 Jul 1828 in Union County, Indiana and was buried in Linegar Farm, Union County, Indiana. BIOGRAPHY: With thier five children they removed to southern Indiana about 1801, taking out land on the borderline between the present Franklin and Union Counties. The name of John Ewing and his brothers, William and David, appear on Frankin County's first taxlist in 1811. ----- John Ewing also served as one of the first Justices of the Peace in Franklin County, appointed in 1811 and again in 1817. His house was on the west bank of the East Fork of the Whitewater River. (To Clinton Co. 1832; to Tippecanoe Ca. 1840) Isabel Ann - b 10-1807. d 4-14-1844. m 8-26-1830 John Skinner, son of Thomas Skinner (Rev. soldier) and Anne Caton, who removed to Dearborn Go., Indiana from Kent County, Delaware in 1805. He and his sons, William and Thomas, were on Franklin County's 1811 taxlist. Jane - b 1812, m Dr. George Winchell 3-16-1830 John - b 1811, m (l) Mary Smith, (2) Widower Gaddis-Cox William Clark - m Catherine Chittick 1836 in Clinton Co. (James) Washington - m Melinda Green, lived near Fort Wayne, Ind. The Duncan Creek Church, Laurens County, S. C., referred to above was founded 1763-4 hy Joseph Adair, Thomas Ewing, William Hanna and Andrew McCrary and his brothers.

John married Margaret Jane ADAIR, daughter of James ADAIR and Rebecca MONTGOMERY, about 1792 in Laurens District, South Carolina. Margaret was born 1773 in Laurens District, South Carolina.
